The Plough Cottages

Location

Eglwyswrw

We are situated between the magnificent Preseli Hills, the Gwaun valley and the beautiful coastline of North Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. The village is conveniently situated on the A487, midway between Newport and Cardigan. Eglwyswrw is a small friendly village with a church, garage, petrol station with village shop where daily newspapers, fresh bread, local organic milk and much more is available. We are very well situated for visiting the beautiful beaches (many are Blue Flag) of Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. Newport, Cwm Yr Eglwys, Pwll Gwaelod, Poppit Sands, Ceibwr, Tresaith, Penbryn, Aberporth and Mwnt are a short distance away. Cardigan Bay is home to large numbers of both bottlenose dolphins and harbour porpoise.

How to Find Plough Farmhouse

From London, the South and from the Midlands via M4

There is a toll on the westbound Severn bridges. There are no fixed speed cameras on the M4 westbound in Wales, but watch out for camera vans on bridges. Going home eastbound, there is one 50mph camera at J40. There is a variable speed limit between junctions 24 and 29 both ways.

At the end of the motorway head towards Carmarthen on the A48 dual carriageway. At Carmarthen you will reach the A40 where there are two options:

Either:

Continue west on the A40 signposted St. Clears / Haverfordwest / Fishguard, for approx 18 miles until you reach Penblewin roundabout where the A40 crosses the A478. Turn right onto the A478 and follow this road for approx 16 miles to the town of Crymych. Continue on the main street past the shops and you will see a sign on the left for EGLWYSWRW.

Or:

Follow the signs northwards for Cardigan and the A40 which will take you around several roundabouts then passing West Wales (Glangwili) Hospital on your left. Take the second exit from the next mini roundabout and follow signs for Newcastle Emlyn on to the A484.

When you reach the village of Cynwel Elfed turn left onto the B4333 (the main road actually bears to the right, and you go straight on) and this will take you a quicker way to Newcastle Emlyn B4333 (take care-a few nasty bends on this road but great scenery).

From Newcastle Emlyn follow signs to Cenarth (home of the famous waterfalls) where you turn left towards Boncath onto the B4332. After leaving Boncath you will cross a staggered junction with the A478 and see a signpost to EGLWYSWRW. This is the scenic route, perhaps a little longer time wise.

At Eglwyswrw, you will enter the village and come to a T Junction just past the Church. Turn right here (care-poor visibility) and after 100 yards turn into the lane on the left. Our driveway is immediately on the right with a sign "The Plough and Plough Cottages".

Time wise, we are about an hour from the end of the M4, whichever route you choose.

From East via A40 (Llandovery / Hereford / Abergavenny)

Take the A40 to Carmarthen, then follow directions above. (It is not worth taking the Lampeter turn north to join the A475 or A487, it is a slow twisty road)

From North-East via A487 (Aberystwyth)

At Aberystwyth, you will be on or will join the A487. Follow signs for Cardigan. At Cardigan, stay on the A487 and follow signs for Fishguard. Eglwyswrw is 5 miles from Cardigan.

At Eglwyswrw you will go down a steep hill as you approach the village. Indicate right as you pass the Eglwyswrw village sign, and at the bottom of the hill turn right into the lane just after The Plough; then immediately right into our driveway.

From South B4329 from Haverfordwest

The B4329 meets the A487 at the far side of the village to The Plough & Cottages. From the B4329, turn right onto A487. Travel through the village, and turn left into the lane 100 yards after passing the church. Our driveway is immediately on the right with a sign "The Plough and Plough Cottages".

From West A487 from Fishguard

The A487 enters at the far side of the village to The Plough & Cottages. Travel through the village, and turn left into the lane 100 yards after passing the church. Our driveway is immediately on the right with a sign "The Plough and Plough Cottages".

Asking Directions

– Just how do you pronounce "EGLWYSWRW" ? Well the best we can come up with is: "Egg-gloo-soo-roo" ("oo" as in "glue" or "Ty-phoo")
There are other routes, so do not worry if your sat-nav does not follow one of the above.
